Head of UGCC His Beatitude Lubomyr blessed the future Andrey Sheptytsky School, which is to open in September 2012 in Kyiv. According to SoborNews, the presentation of the new school was held on November 30 at the Patriarchal Curia of the UGCC.

His Beatitude Lubomyr, Metropolitan Joseph (Milian), and members of the school's work group took part in the presentation.

The founder of the school will be the Andrey Sheptytsky Education Foundation, which will be registered soon. The school will be the first but not the only project of the education foundation, says the head of the UGCC.

In 2012 the school plans to start with three elementary grades consisting all together of 60 students. According to the work group, one of the most difficult tasks will be finding a proper building. "This will be the first and so far the only school under the auspices of the UGCC in Kyiv. Children from different areas of the city will study at the school. Most likely, we will find a space on the Left Bank for the commute is easier," said work group member Lilia Grynevych.

According to the head of UGCC, it is important that the school offers a high-quality education. "I remember the good reputation that the Catholic school of St. Basil in New York has in the United States. Its graduates are widely accepted in all colleges," says His Beatitude Lubomyr.

The patriarch said that the school should be accessible not only for the wealthy but for talented children of all means. "Our school will be prestigious, not because of the parents of the children but because of the level of education," explains work group member George Vakhel. Father Roman Nebozhuk says that scholarships will be offered but that they will be competitive.

In the future, as the institution develops and more grades are offered, the pupils will also come from other areas Ukraine.
