The birth rate in the third quarter of 2010 increased in all regions of Ukraine apart from Kharkiv and Dnipropetrovsk Oblasts, Justice Minister Oleksandr Lavrynovych has said with reference to data from relevant agencies, the Kyiv Post reports.

According to the minister, after the decline in the birth rate registered in Ukraine in the first quarter of 2010, the birth rate started to increase in the second quarter. In the third quarter in various regions the registration of births grew more. Thus, in August-October in various regions the birth rate was from 2% to 23% higher than in May-July.

In particular, the birth rate grew by 2% in Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast, by 3.5% in Lviv Oblast, by 5% in Vinnytsia, Volyn and Luhansk Oblasts, by 6% in Zhytomyr Oblast, by 7.5% in Khmelnytsky Oblast, by 9% in Ternopil and Chernihiv Oblasts, by 11% in Rivne Oblast and Kyiv, by 12% in Zakarpattia and Cherkasy Oblasts, by 14% in Kirovohrad, Mykolaiv and Kherson Oblasts, by 15% in Odesa and Chernivtsi Oblasts, by 16% in Zaporizhia, Kyiv, Sumy Oblasts and Sevastopol, by 17% in Donetsk Oblast, by 19% in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, and by 23% in Poltava Oblast.

The Justice Minister also noted the tendency for the increase in the number of registered births against the number of registered deaths in the third quarter.

Thus, in the third quarter the number of registered births exceeded the number of registered deaths in six regions - Volyn, Zakarpattia, Ivano-Frankivsk, Rivne, Chernivtsi, and Kyiv.

Overall, the death rate still exceeded the birth rate by 30% in the third quarter in Ukraine. At the same time the birth rate of the third quarter exceeded the birth rate of the second quarter by 5%, and of the first quarter by almost 15%.
