Ukraine’s President Greets Eastern Rite Christians on the Feast Day of the Protection of the Mother of God

Kyiv—Ukraine’s president, Victor Yushchenko has greeted Christians of the Eastern Rite on the occasion of the feast of the Protection of the Mother of God. On 13 October, 2008, the press-service of Ukraine’s president published an address saying that the feastday is one of the most significant ones for the Ukrainian nation.

“The Holy Virgin Mary was specially respected by warriors of the Ukrainian spirit; the Cossacks and fighters of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army appointed her their patron. Thousands of Churches in Ukraine were built in honour of the Protection of the Holy Mother of God. One of them was this year revived from ashes in the Cossack capital of Baturyn. Almost every Ukrainian family has an icon of the Mother of God. I wish you good health, happiness, peace, agreement and well-being. Let our hearts be filled with grace and love on this holy day. Let the Protection of the Holy Mother of God guard us all and our Ukraine,” says Victor Yushchenko’s address.
