Ukraine—The Union of Navy Chaplains of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church (UGCC) have called all people who are not indifferent to support with prayer the Ukrainian sailors of the ship Faina who were taken captive by pirates 12 days ago near the coast of Somalia. ugcc.org.ua posted the news on 6 October 2008.

According to a report of the UGCC press-service, the head of the Union of Navy Chaplains of the UGCC, Fr. Oleksandr Kenez, stressed: “We urge all ministers to pray during the Liturgy for the happy return of the crew of the Faina. We believe that our prayer will help our guys.”

The pirates demand a ransom of 30 million US dollars for the release of the whole crew. It is also known that Islamic militants from Somalia wish to receive part of the weapons transported by the ship.
