Action «My ‘brick’ on Building of Patriarchal Cathedral» Held

30.09.2008 - From autumn 2007 to summer 2008 with the purpose of collecting funds to build the Patriarchal Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ in the city of Kyiv, a collection was conducted in Ukraine. The main method of receiving the necessary money was by distributing special «bricks» with the nominal value 10, 20, 50, 100, 500 and 1000 UAH (hryvnias), purchasing which the benefactor makes a worthy contribution to a great common cause. A feature of the «bricks» is the special tear-off part which with written information about the donor was passed on as a prayer intention to the Patriarchal Cathedral. By the spring of 2008 a similar action distributing special «bricks» for the building of the cathedral was conducted in Italy and the USA. Recently the Committee to Collect Funds to Build the Patriarchal Center of the UGCC in Kyiv summed up the conducted activity «My ‘brick’ on the building of the Patriarchal Cathedral». For the building of the Patriarchal Center in Ukraine from the realization of the «bricks» 3 903 131, 63 hryvnias were transferred by the eparchies and exarchates of the UGCC. On the web page of the Patriarchal Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ in Kyiv (www.kyivsobor.ugcc.org.ua ) the process of collecting information about all donors who purchased a «brick» as part of the action «My ‘brick’ on the building of the Patriarchal Cathedral» is in process. All who took part in this action are named in a specially created section «Bricks» and have the possibility to find themselves, entering for the search series and number, or first name and last name, or locality, which were marked in the database and the torn off part of the «bricks.» In addition, visiting the web page of the Patriarchal Cathedral, it is possible to see the amount of «bricks» which have been entered in the database and what sum was collected by them (as of today, information has been entered about 28 730 «bricks», for which 1 166 471 hryvnias were collected.)
