More teenagers in England study religion for examinations

22-09-2008

The number of teenagers in England who choose to follow religious studies for their school-leaving examination at the age of 18 rose by almost 6 per cent in 2008, the fifth consecutive year of increase, reports Ecumenical News International.

"A strong interest was shown in the ethical and philosophical aspects of the subject," the Rev. John Gay, the (Anglican) Church of England's religious education spokesman told Ecumenical News International.

"Although this interest is not necessarily reflected in church attendance, it is very encouraging."
