Capital city of Canada gears up for 40 Days for Life rally

09-09-2008

On September 23, Ottawa will join more than 170 cities hosting 40 Days for Life, a powerful movement that has already helped save countless unborn lives, reports LifeSiteNews.com.

The kick-off rally on Parliament Hill, scheduled for 7-9 pm, will officially begin the period of prayer and community outreach lasting from September 24 to November 2. The rally will include Angelina Steenstra from Silent No More Awareness and a silent, prayerful candlelight procession to the Morgentaler abortion clinic. As a visible sign of the widespread prayer and sacrifice to end abortion, participants will keep vigil outside the clinic throughout the forty days.

The rally advertisement describes its trifold initiative:

- Prayer and Fasting: inviting people of faith throughout the city to join together for 40 days of fervent prayer and fasting for an end to abortion. "This is a spiritual battle," explains the advertisement, "and some demons can only be driven out by prayer & fasting."

- Peaceful Vigil: standing for life through a 40-day peaceful public witness outside the local Morgentaler abortion mill.

- Community Outreach: taking a positive, upbeat pro-life message to every corner of the city through media efforts, church presentations, petition drives, and public visibility.

40 Days for Life already produced groundbreaking results in America last year, with several abortion clinics closing or being scaled back during the campaign.

"As people here in Ottawa join with others from across the country to pray and fast and take courageous action for 40 days to end the tragic violence of abortion, we look forward to seeing what kind of transformation God will bring about in our city and throughout Canada," said local 40 Days for Life spokesman Nicole Campbell.
