Perpetual vows of Basilian brothers in Lviv

29-08-2008

On Sunday August 24, 2008, Ukrainian Independence Day, three Basilian monks, Br. Tadey Hodovanets\', Br. Khrystofor Hanynets\' and Br. Mykolay Mykosovskyj, in the Lviv Church of St. Onuphrios of the Basilian Fathers declared in public that they are ready to be fully dedicated to God in a ministry in a monastic community, taking perpetual vows at the hands of Fr. Kornyliy Yaremak, OSBM, Proto-consultor of the Province of the Most Holy Savior in Ukraine of the Basilian Fathers. The relatives of the newly vowed, families, friends, and fellow brothers of the order came for the ceremony on Sunday. Fr. Robert Lyseyko, OSBM, rector of the Basilian Institute of Philosophy and Theology Studies, which is in Briukhovychi near Lviv, concelebrated the Divine Liturgy. The brothers who took perpetual vows are students of the Institute.

In his sermon Fr. Kornyliy concentrated first of all on the ceremony of making a lifelong profession, underlining that the brothers prepared for this important step for a fairly long time. He reminded them that various services and obligations await them in the Basilian order and in Christ\'s Church on behalf of numerous human souls.

On behalf of the newly-vowed brothers, Br. Mykolay Mykosovskyj addressed those present with a word of gratitude. He thanked, first of all, the parents, who according to the divine plan gave life to the monks, who are able now to devote themselves to the Lord God to the end. «We prepared for this not only through the summer but during the whole time of our stay in the monastery, overcoming different doubts, temptations, uncertainty,» said Br. Mykolay.
