An exhibition of restored icons, "Rescued masterpieces," opened

Recently in the exhibit halls of the Ivano-Frankivs'k Regional Museum the opening of an exhibition of restored works of sacred art from the 17th to the beginning of the 20th centuries, dedicated to the 1020th anniversary of the Baptism of Rus'-Ukraine, was held. For the consideration of visitors of the exhibition more than 30 artistic works which were restored by the artist-restorer of the museum, Valeriy Tverdokhlib, and had been exhibited for two months in the national monument Sophia of Kyiv as part of the project "Treasures of the museums of Ukraine on the holy land of Sophia of Kyiv" were presented.

Some icons are presented for the first time after conservation and restoration, namely: "The Presentation of the Most Holy Virgin Mary in the Temple," "Dormition of the Most Holy Mother of God," "Saints Cyril and Methodius," and "Saint Nicholas." A special place in the collection of icons is occupied by a miraculous icon of the 17th century, "The Mother of God who points the way."

At the exhibition for the community of the city and the region the project "We are rescuing masterpieces together," for the restoration of two unique icons of the 17th century, "Michael the Archangel" and "Saint Nicholas," was presented.

The Most Rev. Mykolay (Simkaylo), Eparch of Kolomyja and Chernivtsi, declared a desire to support the restoration of the icon "Saint Nicholas."
