The Catechetical Commission of the Kyivan Archeparchy in cooperation with the Patriarch's Catechetical Commission, the Catechetical-Pedagogical Institute of the Ukrainian Catholic University, and the Inter-Eparchial Commission, is organizing the educational program "The Basics of the Christian Faith and Ministry in the Parish," which will provide not only theoretical knowledge and practical skills but also concrete aspects of ministering in a parish. The course lasts two years and all interested persons from the Kyian Archeparchy who pass the interview with the Catechetical Commission on Tuesday and Thursday to the end of February 2010 will be able to participate.

About the purpose of the course Fr. Petro Zhuk, the head of Catechetical Commission of Kyivan Archeparchy, remarked: "In our time pastors and catechists who work or wish to organize work with the youth in the parish are in need of qualified helpers, especially for the Kyivan Archeparchy; in fact, parochial life is in the phase of forming and in dynamic development, and is meeting the needs of our day, which are difficult to answer. In such moments desire and good will are not sufficient. Thus, in this matter is needed knowledge of the particularities of children and adolescents, their needs and difficulties, and also a whole gamut of knowledge, abilities, and skills. In particular: the ability to organize and carry out a small community and it systematic work, to prepare and conduct a summer Christian camp, to organize and plan the teaching of youth, as well as interesting and creative recreation."

The studies are based on the principle subjects of biblical, liturgical, moral, and methodological fields, encompass 240 theoretical-practical hours, and include theological-pastoral and methodical-practical components:
