Requiem Mass for the Victims of Holodomor in Ukraine Held in Brussels

A requiem mass for the victims of the Holodomor in Ukraine of 1932-1933 was held in Brussels. The requiem took place at the St. Michael and St. Gudula Cathedral. During the requiem mass Reverend Bishop Mikhail (Hrynchyshyn), bishop for the Ukrainians of France, Benelux, and Switzerland of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, led the Divine Liturgy and memorial service. UNIAN news agency reported this story on November 19, 2009.

During the requiem Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Ukraine in Belgium and Luxemburg Yevhen Bersheda gave a speech in which he included historical information about the Holodomor in Ukraine. In the speech the ambassador noted that the parliament of 21 countries of the world has honored the memory of the victims of the Holodomor and the parliaments of 13 countries of the world has recognized in resolutions that the Holodomor had the signs of genocide of the Ukrainian people.

"We hope that the parliament of Belgium will also honor the memory of victims of the Holodomor," added Mr. Yevhen Bersheda.
