IVANO-FRANKIVSK - During the night of October 4, 2009, unknown persons fired at the building of the "New Star" publishing house. Eight shots were fired at the stained-glass windows of the publishing house. The administration of the institution associates the incident with the publications of the New Star newspaper. The senior editor of the publishing house, Mykhailo Zakharchuk, reported this story to the Institute of Mass Communication. RISU's Ukrainian-language webpage posted this story on October 27, 2008.

He noted that the incident could not have been just hooligan acts as the shots were fired directly and solely at the windows of the institution.

According to the editor, the summer editions of the newspaper included resonant material about the murder of the nationalist Maksym Chaika in Odesa. Also, the newspaper actively covered the visit of Patriarch Kirill of Moscow to Ukraine from its own viewpoint.

The newspaper New Star was founded in 1925 as an edition of the Ukrainian Catholic Organization. It was revived in 1990s as the official newspaper of the Ivano-Frankivsk Eparchy of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church.

The president takes part in the meeting of the Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations.
