Ukrainian Catholic U. Hosts Forum of Theologians-Moralists of Central Europe

27-08-2008

27.08.2008 - Lviv- The premises of the Philosophy and Theology Faculty of the Ukrainian Catholic University in western Ukrainian Lviv is hosting a conference of the Forum of Theologians-Moralists of Central Europe. The conference began on 26 August, lasts until 28 August 2008, and is titled "The responsibility for the transmission of human life: 40 years of the encyclical ‘Humanae Vitae.'"

"Conferences like this should reflect on and develop methods to demonstrate this valuable material more easily for people, and for its acceptance." So said Archbishop Ihor Vozniak of Lviv of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church to the participants of the conference.

"Of course, the human person always has free choice, but the efforts of the church, its ministers, and learned persons, should be maximal so that it does everything possible for the high moral life of Christians. The savior knew that many would not accept his teaching, but this did not discourage him from sacrificing his life for the salvation of each soul. The human person has gone away from God, but the Lord wants him to return for life with him in eternal love and joy," said the archbishop.

Among the scheduled speakers are Roman Catholic Bishop Dr. Andreas Laun of Salzburg, Austria; Archbishop Auhustyn (Markevych) of Lviv of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Moscow Patriarchate, speaking on "Orthodox teaching on sexual morality"; and scholarly representatives from other countries, including Poland and Germany.

Professors from UCU's Institute of Marriage and Family Life will lead some of the work groups on themes like "the theology of the body" and "love and responsibility, key thoughts of Karol Wojtyla."
