Vatican’s Territory to Appear in Kyiv

KYIV-On 23 June, 2009, the mayor of Kyiv, Leonid Chernovetskyi, officially passed to the Apostolic Nuncio in Ukraine, Archbishop Ivan Yurkovich, the Right of Ownership of the Holy See (Vatican) a land plot of 0.23 Hectars at 40 Turhenieva Street in Kyiv.
According to the press service of the Kyiv City State Administration, during the ceremony, Mayor Chernovetskyi noted: "We are pleased to have passed the right of ownership of the plot on 23 June, 2009, on the day of the election of Pope Benedict XVI of Rome." "In addition, it was on that day, 8 years ago, that Ukraine was visited by Pope John Paul II. In this way, we are not only expressing our respect for the Catholic Church, but also taking another step to establish faith and spirituality in the capital, which is a priority for the capital's authorities," added the mayor.
He also stressed that he plans to visit the nuncio at his residence and ask him to pray for Ukraine.
