KYIV-On 19 June, 2009, the head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church (UGCC), Patriarch Lubomyr (Husar) met with representatives of the European mass media and the leaders of the United Bible Societies. The representatives visited Ukraine on 17-19 June to promote wider coverage of past events that dealt with the revival of the society, various freedoms, and confessions.

According to a report from the Information Department of UGCC, on 9 November, 2009, the 20th anniversary of the collapse of the Berlin Wall and unification of Germany will be marked. In his address to the participants, Patriarch Lubomyr stressed the historic importance of the collapse of the Berlin Wall and spoke about how the event changed the society's mentality. The hierarch compared his impressions from his first visit to Ukraine during the Soviet era to his return in the 1990s.

In addition, the patriarch noted that today, one of the important priorities of UGCC life is the effort to make sure the Bible is present in every home and that various age and social groups (invalids, military, prisoners) have access to the Word of God. For example, he said that the Patriarchal Catechetical Committee of UGCC published 60 thousand copies of the Bible with commentaries in the last year, and that 206 Bible circles exist in Ukraine today.
